Day 1: Matthew 1:1-17 (Sermon Focus)
Day 2: Matthew 1:18-25 Day 3: Matthew 2:1-12 Day 4: Matthew 2:13-23 Day 5: Reflect… What is the importance of Jesus’s genealogy to the Gospel? How does it prepare us to hear and understand Jesus’s story? How do you see Jesus portrayed as a king? What trouble is foreshadowed for this king? What kind of king will Jesus be? Does Matthew’s telling of this story help you understand Jesus will be a different king than King Herod or the other kings of the time?

The end of Matthew 2 is a particularly difficult passage. We all struggle to understand how such a tragedy could happen. Yet, we also believe Jesus came to show us a new way to live. Those in power do not need to lead with violence, but instead love is a far more powerful force.
